A Magic Name
His namesake tells the story of one meant for magical
things. Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche was a magician
of sorts, a wizard, a bard. It is clear that he had chosen his
path here on earth. He had come with purpose, focused
on making the world a better place, and I believe that on
a soul level, he planned his departure to affect change. He
was a modern day Bodhisattva. The way that Taliesin died
left a profound impact upon the world. Sacrifice is an act
of love and compassion. To give one’s life for another is the
highest honor.
The Arrival of the Bard
Every year our family goes to Oregon Country Fair, where
people come out of the woods and share their crafts. It’s a
celebration with art, vaudeville, parades and music. Hand
built booths line dirt pathways that wind through the for-
est in a figure eight. The summer of 1993 I ran into Katya,
an old friend at the Fair. She makes lovely Renaissance
clothing and these beautiful handmade dolls. Katya had
made a doll for each of our seven children. Katya greeted
me saying, “Asha, look, I made you a doll!” She handed me
a Tibetan Wizard doll.
My immediate response was, “Why? I’m not pregnant!”
She said, “Well, I made you a doll.”
I told her, “Ok!! It is beautiful, thank you!” I found out I
was pregnant within a week and knew it must be a boy!
While I was pregnant, Papa Chris, who is considered a Sage
among friends, had a dream that our child was a flame from
the sky.
