After Taliesin died, Getze Rinpoche began the tradi-
tional 49 days of prayer practiced by all Buddhists after
someone passes.
Getze Rinpoche arrived from Tibet the day before
Taliesin died. The Dalai Lama had sent him to the US to
get his green card. He is the one who determined when
Taliesin’s cremation should happen, which happened
to be Memorial Day. Getze Rinpoche determines the
optimal time for cremation for the people of Tibet.
The timing of his arrival was very auspicious; not only
because of the blessing of the children, but because
in the days following, a Vajrasattva Retreat had been
scheduled - which happens every year at the same
time. It is very propitious the teacher of teachers ar-
rived to lead the retreat. Taliesin was prayed for daily
during the retreat, which ended with Naydron, a puri-
fication ceremony to help the deceased from the past
year attain liberation. After the Interfaith memorial in
Portland, our family drove directly to Tashi Choling,
fortunately arriving just in time to be seated for the
Naydron ceremony.
After the ceremony, statues were made using the loved
ones ashes. After the statues dried, they were placed
in a shrine room, which happened on the same day
Taliesin attained his Rainbow Light Body.
Getze Rinpoche was recently appointed the supreme
head of a Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He was also pres-
ent on the land when Taliesin took his rainbow light
body. Not only was Getze Rinpoche saying prayers for
49 days, but four other Rinpoche’s and the Dalai Lama
were also contacted by friends and family to include
Taliesin in 49 days of prayer. At the very moment of
Taliesins death, the Dalai Lama was blessing Tenzin’s
ceremonial bundle in Dharamsala, India. Tenzin, a
longtime friend, brought the bundle to our family. We
then realized the synchronicity of the timing.
