Where There Be Dragons
For Taliesin’s gap year, he went to Indonesia for three
months. This is Taliesin’s first writing:
I can feel the serenity seeping into my every pore. A
true sign of the unparalleled and unmatched beauty
– I need not seek the balm of Indonesia, it seeks me.
It is only the third night, but time has nearly lost it’s
meaning. I sit here surrounded by the warm and dark
atmosphere, my writing urged on by the distant ul-
ulating of late night temple goers, and by socializing
bull frogs filling the air with their voice.
Tantamount to none, the excitement bubbles beneath
my skin, sending the usually dormant butterflies in-
side of me into frenzies; and time and time again I’m
forced to reign in the bursting energy. My body and
mind, so accustomed to the hasty nature of my home
culture, race ahead of the present moment. It’s an
effort to hold myself to a single point of focus. That’s
not to say that I haven’t already experienced incred-
ible moments of cultural immersion – a Balienese
wedding, language learning, and more.
My body is urging me to sleep.
Sampai jumpa lagi – until we meet later.
