The Birth Mandala
When I moved to Southern Oregon, the first people I met
were Matthew and Caroline. They lived across the road
from where we started Pacific Domes, over the mountain
from Ashland. Tashi Choling Monastery was purchased
and built on the land next door to us, the very same year.
Mathew and Caroline got involved in Buddhism and be-
came pillars at the Monastery.
When Taliesin was due to be born, we had a Baby Blessing-
Way at our house, a baby shower with a prayer ceremony
to bless the mother and child with prayers for safety and
wellbeing. Matthew and Caroline came and brought this
10 centimeters mandala to represent his entering from the
womb into the world. Everyone drew a meaningful symbol
on the mandala of something they wanted him to have in
his life.
While Taliesin was a baby, Matthew would come to my
house and teach me the Vajrasattva practice, a prayer for
purification and protection.
